We're Always Available

Because medical emergencies do not always occur between 9 and 5, Astera Care is always on-call.  Our "after-hours" services are designed to protect our clients in the event of an emergency.

24-Hour Medical Call Center Access

Our clients, our clients' family members and other representatives have access to Astera Care's 24-hour Medical Call Center, providing them the comfort of knowing a Registered Nurse is always available to address any medical questions or concerns.

Around-the-Clock Crisis Management

We are on call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.  Whether or not a call requires immediate attention, our Registered Nurses are always available.  When a call comes in, the following action is taken:

If the call is a medical emergency, the On-Call Nurse performs some or all the following tasks, depending on the nature of the problem:

  • Provides instructions over the phone to the client or caregiver;
  • Visits the client’s home immediately;
  • Arranges for transportation to the appropriate medical facility;
  • Directs the client (or caregiver) to call 911;
  • Notifies the client's physician, family and any other client representative of the client's change in status.

More frequently, after-hours calls are not medical in nature.  In this case, the On-Call Registered Nurse contacts the most appropriate Astera Care associate who can handle the problem.
